Jon Sarjanen began pursuing film music in his mid-twenties, leaving his former musical direction behind to fully embrace cinematic composition. With piano as his primary instrument, he is also a versatile multi-instrumentalist, drawing on a broad range of sounds and textures to shape his musical voice. A significant portion of his work explores modern cinematic and hybrid scoring, fusing traditional orchestration with innovative sound design. Drawing inspiration from a wide spectrum of musical styles, he immerses himself in diverse genres, letting everything he listens to inform and influence his creative process.
“My writing process usually begins with the image itself. I spend time studying the picture and returning to the conversation I’ve had with the director or producer about what the scene needs emotionally and narratively. Often there are already ideas from their side as well as my own, so the first step is finding the balance between those perspectives and shaping them into something that serves the story“
